Hilton Carlton, 88, of Wilson, died Friday, May 13, 2016.
Funeral, Monday, 11 a.m., First Baptist Church. The family will be at Wilson Memorial Service, Sunday, 5 - 6:30 p.m.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Lancaster Carlton; sons, Lewis Carlton (friend, Tina Crawford) of Clayton and Kelly Carlton (Carol) of Wilson; grandchildren, Emily Carlton of Baltimore and Eric Carlton of Wilson; twin brother, Milton Carlton (Violet) of Pinetops.
Hilton was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Cable and Ida Crute Carlton of Edgecombe County; sisters, Lucille Cale (Hugh) and Lillian Carlton of Pinetops, Marguerite Phillips of Fountain, Mae Pendergrass Underwood (June) of Greensboro, Polly Coleman Hume (Evan) of Winchester, Virginia; brothers, J.C. Carlton (Nettie Mae), Lewis Carlton (Kitty Snow) and Leonard Carlton, all of Pinetops and Robert Carlton of Shelby.
A graduate of West Edgecombe High School in Edgecombe County, he went on to serve in the Army for two years in Korea. Upon release he enrolled in agriculture economics at N.C. State University where he graduated in 1952.
Next was Wilson where he worked as a trust officer and farm manager for First Union National Bank until 1980. Upon early retirement, he and son, Kelly, formed Carlton Management Enterprises — Certified Rural Appraiser. It was during those years he served on the N.C. Board of Farm Managers.
In the community, he was a member of the Wilson Rotary Club and enjoyed being a part of the Meals on Wheels program. The former Exchange Club honored the couple in their Book of Golden Deeds.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Avante.
He loved his church, First Baptist, and served faithfully in many capacities there. Memorials are suggested to the church, P.O. Box 1467, Wilson NC 27894-1467 and to the Avante Patient Social Fund, 1804 Forest Hills Road W., Wilson, NC 27893-3413 where he had been a resident in recent months.

Miss Lancaster Announces Plans For Her Marriage To Mr. Carlton
Miss Frances Lancaster, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Warren Lancaster, of this city, has announced the plans for her marriage to Hilton Carlton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Cable Carlton of Pinetops.
The formal afternoon ceremony will take place at the First Baptist Church, Sunday, September 7, at 5 o'clock. The bride will be given in marriage by her father. The Reverend Phillip M. Hutchinson, pastor of the bride, will be the officiating minister at the double-ring ceremony, with Dr. John W. Kincheloe, the assisting minister.
Miss Sarah Lee Smith of Whitakers, college classmate of the bride, will be organist and Miss Dorothy Still of Rolesville and Jack Resico of Rocky Mount, soloists.
Miss Lancaster will have her sister, Mrs. Leon W. Robertson of Rocky Mount, as matron of honor, and Miss Rosa Lee Brake, also of this city, as maid of honor. Bridemaids will be Miss Lou Gardner of Pinetops; Mrs. Charlie Bryant Phillips of Fountain, sister of the bridegroom; Miss Ruby Lee Scott of Tarboro; and Mrs. Cherry W. Lancaster, sister-in-law of the bride.
Miss Ann Robertson, niece of the bride, will be flower girl. Master Johnny Phillips of Fountain, nephew of the bridegroom, will be ringbearer.
Her honorary bridesmaids are: Mrs. George Robert Parker of Rocky Mount; Miss Dolly Hinton of Rocky Mount; Mrs. Ralph R.
