He was civilian psychologist at the aerospace medical laboratories, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, and part-time faculty member of Antioch College and Wittenberg University. AF Psychologist Dies In Crash In Ethiopia Donald B. Haines, a research psychologist assigned to the Aerospace Medical Research laboratories at Wright-Patterson Air Force base, was killed May 6 in a plane crash during a practice tactical gunnery mission in Ethiopia, the Air Force announced yesterday. Haines, 37, of 401 South High street. Yellow Springs, was an observer in the training flight of the T-28D aircraft when the crash occurred about 40 miles northwest of Dire Dawa which is east of Addie Ababa in east central Ethiopia. He was In Ethiopia to participate in a behavioral sciences labortory cross-cultural study. Also killed in the crash was the pilot, Lt. Menassie Gatahun of the Imperial Ethiopian Air Force. Haines, a native of Mount Holly, N.J., had been serving at Wright-Patterson for nearly three years. He also was assistant professor and lecturer in psychology at Antioch college and lectured at Wittenberg university. Formerly in the Army, Dr. Haines earned his bachelor's degree at Harvard university, a master's in economics in England at the University of London's school of economics in 1956, and a doctorate in social psychology at the University of Michigan in 1959. From 1959 to 1962 he was assistant professor of psychology at Robart college, Istanbul, Turkey, and visiting lecturer at the University of Istanbul. While in Istanbul he also was senior educational consultant for the U.S. Air Force there. Survivors include his wife, Harriet of New York City, and three children, Donald, 10, Valerie, 8, and Anne, 3. Also his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. S. Haines Sr. of Mount Holly, N.J., and two brothers, Mortimer S. Jr. of Mount Holly and Dr. Robert Haines of Metuchen. N.J.
