Earl Henry Clayberger

Feb. 11, 1923 - Aug. 20, 1997

WOODBURN--Earl H. Clayberger, 74, died Wednesday in Tualatin from cancer.

Born in Portland, he graduated from Benson High School in Portland in 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in 1942, serving as a telephone technician in Europe during World War II. He later worked with Pacific N.W. Bell Telephone for 41 years, retiring in 1983. He moved to Woodburn from Portland in 1983. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Woodburn and Telephone Pioneers of America; he enjoyed fishing, tennis and volunteer community service.

He married Joan Marie Sargent on June 9, 1946.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Lynne Topper of Portland and Anita Klausman of Eugene; sister, Marjorie Dixon of Woodburn; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are by Cornwell Colonial Chapel. Contributions: American Cancer Society or the church.
