Leon E. Clayberger, 91, Snydertown
SNYDERTOWN — Leon E. Clayberger, 91, a former resident of Snydertown, died Thursday evening, April 8, 2010, at the Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove.
He was born in Rockefeller Township on Aug. 26, 1918, a son of the late Edward Clayberger and the late Ora (Campbell) Clayberger Gass. He married the former Mary H. Bason on Feb. 25, 1943.
Leon served with the Army Air Force during World War II in the Pacific.
He was a mason and was formerly employed for over 30 years by the Brosious Lumber Company in Sunbury.
He was a member of the Miller’s Crossroads United Methodist Church, Sunbury.
Leon served as mayor of Snydertown for many years. He enjoyed gardening and sharpening saws.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter, Karen S. Geise and husband Ralph of Sunbury; five sons, John E. Clayberger of Carlisle, Leon R. Clayberger and wife Susan of Lewistown, Carl D. Clayberger and wife Sandra of Perkasie, Jay A. Clayberger and wife Joyce of Sunbury, and Ray A. Clayberger and wife Susan of Kreamer; 10 grand - children, Damon and Brandon Clayberger, Beth Stahl, Amy Grubb, Ginger Hoffman, Suzanne Shoch, Matthew Geise, Cheryl and Timothy Furman, and Howard Clayberger; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Claude and Elwood; and two sisters, Marcella Shipman and Elsie Hummel.
Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 2 with the Rev. John Parker officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be in the Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
