Ray Clayberger

RANSHAW - Ray Adam (Kelly) Clayberger, 71, of 347 Main St., died Saturday at 7:55 a.m. in Shamokin State General Hospital. He was in ill health since Aug. 10 and was a patient in Shamokin State General Hospital and Geisinger Medical Center during his illness. After returning to his home, Mr. Clayberger re-entered Shamokin Hospital Wednesday.

Mr. Clayberger was born in Coal Run, July 6, 1905, a son of the late Adam and Elizabeth (Jones) Clayberger. He resided in Coal Run and Ranshaw during his lifetime.

He was a pipe fitter. He worked in area collieries and was last employed as an area construction worker, retiring in 1967. He was educated in Coal Township Schools and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Shamokin, Brady Fire Co., and Pipe Fitters Local 520. Mr. Clayberger served during World War II with the 6th Armored Division in Asiatic Theatre. He participated in 42 first wave landings. He was awarded the Purple Heart, arrowhead and four bronze stars.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Lupton, and Miss Verna Clayberger, and a brother, Ralph S. Clayberger, all at home, and two nephews.

Farrow Funeral Directors, Shamokin, have charge of arrangements.
