Wedding in North Carolina
Alvah D. Ehrman Weds Miss Anne Crute Cole, Is Attended by Father in Pinetops Church
The marriage of Miss Anne Crute Coal, daughter of Mrs. Daniel Hugh Cole of Pinetops, N. Car. and the late Mr. Cole, to Alvah Donald Ehrman, Fireman First Class, United States Navy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Frederick Ehrman of Pleasant Ave., took place the afternoon of Sept. 2 in the Pinetops Baptist Church.
The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Thomas W. McKneely. The alter was banked with palms and ferns and baskets of white mixed flowers and lighted by tall tapers.
Given in marriage by her brother, Hugh C. Cole, the bride wore a gown of appliqued nylon tulle, fashioned on princess lines with a short train. A crown of pearls held her fingertip veil of imported illusion and she carried a white Bible with a marker of white cymbidium orchids and a shower of daisies. The bride and her mother designed and made both the gown and veil.
Miss Jean Cole attended her sister as maid of honor. Bridesmades were Mrs. Hugh Cole of Fayetteville and Miss Joyce Anne Ehrman, sister of the bridegroom. They all wore floor-length gowns of blue taffeta, blue flower hats and carried shower bouquets of yellow chrysanthemums.
Honorary bridesmaids were Miss Angelum Legget of Raleigh, Mrs. Norma Wiggs of Kinston, Miss Patsy Phillips of Fountain and Miss Gayle Carlton of Pinetops. Their gowns were in pastel tones and they wore wrist corsages of yellow pompons.
Mr. Ehrman was best man for his son. Ushers were Carroll Wiggs of Kinston and Richard Fowler of Indiana, Pa., college classmates of the bridegroom.
The bride's mother wore a pale blue crepe gown with matching flower hat. She wore navy blue accessories and a corsage of pink cymbidium orchides. Mrs Ehrman was atired in a rose tan lace gown, with turquoise accessorie. Her corsage was of purple orchids.
For her wedding trip the bride wore an aqua print silk dress with lavender duster, black accessories and an orchid corsage. Mr. Ehrman and his bride will make their home in Norfolk, Va. until his discharge from the Navy, when he will join his father in the plumbing business here in Hamburg.
The bride attended Meredith College and the Atlantic Christian College. Mr. Ehrman is a graduate of Canton College and the North Carolina State College.
Among the interesting features of the wedding was the cake-ctting ceremony, an age-old custom of the deep south, which followed the wedding rehearsal on Saturday night. The bridal party, their families and out of town guests were invited. Mrs. J. C Carlton and Mrs. Hugh Pitt Jenkins entertained in the Carlton home A bridal motif of green and white, featuring clematis and magnolia leaves, was carried out in the serving table, where the three-tiered cake was placed.
The mother of the bride served the cake and the bridegroom's mother presided at the punch bowl. Honorary bridesmaids, gowned in the formal attire of the early days, assisted in serving.
A reception was held in the Carlton home immediately following the wedding.

Ehrman-Cole Vows Said In Pinetops
The marriage of Miss Anne Crute Cole of Pinetops, daughter of Mrs. Daniel Hugh Cole and the late Mr. Cole of Pinetops, and Alvah Donald Ehrman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Frederick Ehrman of Hamburg, New York, was solemnized Sunday afternoon, September 2, at 4:30 o'clock in the Pinetops Baptist Church.
The double ring ceremony was performed by the Reverend Thomas W. McNeely, pastor of the bridge and groom, before a background of fern and palms, tall candelabra with lighted tapers and a large basket of white mixed flowers.
Nuptial Music
Mrs. C.K. Griffin, organist, presented a program of wedding music which included the traditional marches. Miss Barbara Ann Corbett, vocal soloist, sang, "The Sweetest Story Ever Told," and "The Wedding Prayer" for benediction.
The bride entered the church with her brother, Hugh C. Cole, by whom she was given in marriage. She was wearing a gown of appliqued nylon tulle, fashioned princess style with a short train. Long sleeves ended in points over the wrists. Her fingertip veil was attached to a crown of pearls and she carried a white Bible topped with white cymbidiums showered with daisies. The bridge and her mother designed and made her gown and veil.
The bride's attendants were Miss Jean Cole, her sister, maid of honor; Mrs. Hugh Cole of Fayettville and Miss Joyce Ann Ehrman, sister of the bridegroom, were bridesmaids. Their floor length dresses were made of blue taffeta and they wore blue flower hats. They carried shower bouquets of yellow mums. Honorary bridesmaids were Miss Angelum Leggett of Raleigh, Mrs. Carroll Wiggs of Kinston, Misses Patsy Phillips of Fountain and Gayle Carlton of Pinetops. They wore pastel dresses and wrist corsages of yellow mums.
Groomsmen
The bridgegroom's father, Francis F. Ehrman was best man. The ushers were Carroll Wiggs of Kinston and Richard Fowler of Indiana, Pennsylvania; college classmages of the bridegroom.
For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Cole wore a light blue silk crepe dress with matching flower hat, navy accessories and a pink cymbidium corsage.
The bridegroom's mother wore a rose tan lace dress, with turquoise accessories and a purple orchid corsage.
For the wedding trip the bride wore an aqua printed silk dress with lavender duster lined with the dress material and black accessories, and corsage from her wedding bouquet.
Upon their return from the wedding trip the couple will make their home in Norfolk, Virginia, temporarily, where Mr. Ehrman is stationed with the United States Navy.
Mrs. Ehrman attended Meredith College and Atlantic Christian College.
Mr. Ehrman graduated from Canton College, Canton, New York, and North Carolina State College.
After receiving his discharge from the navy, the bridegroom will be in business with his father in Hamburg, New York.
Out-of-Town Guests
Among the out-of-town guests attending the wedding were Mrs. Gladys Ellis of Lake Worth, Florida, Mrs. Mae Desellem of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mr. and Mrs. Hoffa Bogart, Jr. of Geneva, New York, and Harold Briles and Edith Bowman of Asheboro, N.C. Mr. and Mrs. Perkin Johnston, Scotland Neck and Mrs. Frank Taylor of Greenville, and Miss Ellen Pitt of Tarboro.
Cake-Cutting
Immediately following the wedding rehearsal Saturday evening, the bridal couple was honored at a cake cutting by Mrs. J. C. Carlton and Mrs. Hugh Pitt Jenkins. The affair was held at the home of Mrs. Carlton. The living room was decorated with arrangements of mixed flowers. An arrangement of red gladioli and colia was used in the den.
The guests were greeted by Mrs. Carlton and Mrs. Jenkins. The affair was informal. The dining room of the Carlton home was decorated with the bridal motif of white and green. an arrangement of white clematis was used and also an arrangement of magnolia leaves and white candles. The dining table was centered with an arrangement of white carnations and daisy mums. A decorated three-tiered wedding cake was served by themother of the bridge, Mrs. D. H. Cole. The punch was served by the bridgegroom's mother, Mrs. F. F. Ehrman, and bridal mints and salted nuts were on trays. Those assisting in the serving were Mrs. W. D. Whitley, Miss Ruth Harper Brown, Mrs. R. L. Dunn, Miss Lulie Phillips, Mrs. L. D. Carlton, Gayle Carlton and Patsy Phillips.
Those present were the bridal party, their families, and out-of-town guests.
Reception
Following the wedding, Mrs. D. H. Cole and Mrs. Lewis Carlton entertained at a reception at the home of Mrs. Carlton. An arrangement of white carnations and mums was used in the living room; also an arrangement of gladioli. Mrs. Carlton greeted the guests. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Carlton made the introductions to the receiving line. Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Jenkins invited guests into the dining room, which was decorated with pink carnations and pink candles. Punch was served by Mrs. C. B. Phillips and Mrs. W. D. Whitley. Honorary bridesmaid, Miss Lulie Phillips and Mrs. R. L. Dunn assisted in the serving. Misses. Ruth Harper Brown and Mildred Gardner received in the hall. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Carlton invited guests into the den where Miss Barbara Ann Corbett presided over the bride's guest book. Mr. and Mrs. Hilton Carlton said the good-byes. Mrs. Veston Bullock and Miss Janie Proctor received in the gift room at the bride's home.
