Former Teacher in Local Schools Dies At Stockton, Calif.
Henry Clayberger, 68, former teacher In Coal Township and Shamokin schools, died Wednesday morning in a hospital at Stockton, Calif., following an illness of six weeks.
Information of the death of Clayberger reached local friends yesterday. Death followed an operation performed three weeks ago. Henry Clayberger left Shamokin five years ago, when he secured employment at the United States Naval Depot in Stockton. He was later joined by his wife and son, and the family made their residence in Stockton.
Henry Clayberger. a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Clayberger, was born April 29. 1880, in Boydtown. He attended Coal Township schools and later was graduated from Bloomsburg State Teachers College. Clayberger first taught school in Coal Township, and for several years was employed at the former J. H. & C. K. Eagle Silk Mill. He was employed as a teacher by Shamokin School District for several years before he retired in 1935.
During his youth, Clayberger was active in athletics and he played baseball as a member of the old Springfield team. He played baseball with several of the teams in the Susquehanna League, also. During the period he was enrolled at Bloomsburg Teacher's College, he was a member of the college basketball team.
Surviving are the widow, and a son. Kenneth. Clayberger was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, the Laymen's Club and Shamokin Lodge of Masons. Funeral services will be in California.

BOYDTOWN WOMAN DIES AT AGE 87
Mrs. Samuel Clayberger Succumbed Last Evening After Illness of Several Weeks
Ann Clayberger, respected wife of Samuel Clayberger. and one of the oldest residents of Coal township, died at her home at Boydtown at 9 o'clock last evening, death resulting from a complication of diseases, after an illness of several weeks. She was in her eighty-eighth year.
The deceased was born in Ardara Parish, county of Donegal, Ireland, October 10, 1837. She came to America in 1865, shortly after the close of the Civil war and located in this section. She was married to Samuel Clayberger, May 22, 1868, and since that time had lived in Boydtown.
Surviving are her husband, one sister, Susan Boyd, one daughter, Mrs. Jennie Olley, and four sons, as follows: Adam of Brady, Robert of Kulpmont, Samuel, Jr., of Poughkeepsie, N. Y., and Henry of Shamokin. There are also 23 grand children and six great grandchildren.
Mrs. Clayberger was a devout christian and had been a life-long member of the Episcopal faith, having been actively identified with the Trinity Episcopal church, this city, for a number of years.
The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon, services to be held at the late home at 2 o'clock, Rev. P. H. Asheton-Martin of Trinity Episcopal church, officiating.
