Mrs. Carlton

SCOTTSBURG -- Mrs. Pearl Crute Carlton, 85, died Monday in a Danville nursing home.

She was born in Halifax County, a daughter of the late Daniel T. Crute and Nancy Lumpkin Crute.

She was married to the late Oscar Wood Carlton. Mrs. Carlton was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

She is survived by four daughters, Evelyn Smith, Scottsburg, Mrs. Josephine Dawson, Hurt, and Mrs. Bessie Moddy and Mrs. Ella Jones, both of Roxboro, N.C., and six sons, Oscar D. Carlton, Yanceyville, N.C., Charles S. Carlton, Bluefield, Ralph S. Carlton, Hurt; Curtis C. Carlton, Richmond, Bennie L. Carlton, South Boston, and W. Wayne Carlton, Danville.

Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Nelson, Altavista; two brothers, Lawrence W. Crute, Crystal Hill, and Harold Crute, Blackstone; 31 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
